I've never noticed this issue until now. If I use the Edge Hardness slider to soften my mask edges, Remask returns a mask with edges that in no way resemble the edges it displays in the plugin preview window.
This occurs in both Remask 4 and the new Remask 5 when I run the plugins in Photoshop Elements 11. My system is Windows 7 64-bit.
I have the preferences in both programs set to auto-create layers and add layer masks.
A secondary issue occurs when I use the Edge Hardness slider to soften the edges AND THEN use the Mask Strength slider: bumping up the Mask Strength slider to as little a value as 1 causes the mask edges to become much more blurred than what the Edge Hardness slider was set for.
In spite of my attempt to re-correct the edge softness in the preview window, clicking "OK" produces a layer mask that I can't use. In my tests, a low value for the Edge Hardness (around 5 or less, maybe?) doesn't seem to produce the problem, but a higher value (around 10 or more) returns unpredictable layer mask edges.
I also have Photoshop CS5, 32- and 64-bit versions. I haven't yet run any new tests to see if the problem appears in those host programs. Again, I don't know why I haven't noticed this issue before.
Maybe it's because I never played around with the Edge Hardness and Mask Strength sliders much.
